Nirupama Academy of Handmade Paper
set up in 2004, aims to cultivate the traditional craft
of papermaking. The Academy also encourages contemporary interpretations of paper as an art object, exploring the possibilities of paper as a form of expression.

Among the various courses offered, Nirupama Academy specializes in the arts of Hand Papermaking and Bookbinding. This makes our academy one of its kind, as most other institutes
in India that include Hand Papermaking and Bookbinding in their curriculum focus only on the technical aspects but ignore the creative potential
of these disciplines. Thus Hand Papermaking and Bookbinding have not become as popular as other plastic art forms in contemporary India. Nirupama Academy addresses this need particularly well.
Any person interested in exploring these versatile mediums can nurture their creative instincts in the well-equipped papermaking and bookbinding workshops conducted by the Academy.

The papermaking and bookbinding units at our Academy were set up with the generous help of Ms. Nirupama Chakraborty. Having a keen interest in developing these distinctive art forms, she donated the premises and infrastructure for the units.

In addition to offering courses, Nirupama Academy provides a range of services, manufactures exclusive artifacts and supplies papermaking equipments and quality papermaking fibre and pulp. We at the Academy are eager to collaborate with Artists and Designers, Art Galleries, Art & Design Institutes, Gift Shops and Corporate Houses.

This Academy is a unique venture, being the only open access unit for hand papermaking and bookbinding in Kolkata, perhaps even in India. Unlike other art institutes, where access to facilities and supplies are limited only to registered students, the resources available at Nirupama Academy can be utilized by anyone interested in papermaking and related art forms.
