ANUPAM CHAKRABORTY

Anupam Chakraborty is the Founder and Creative Director of Nirupama Academy of Handmade Paper. It is his vision that has shaped Nirupama Academy.

Anupam Chakraborty is an artist, papermaker and educator who lives and works in Kolkata, India. Anupam graduated in Painting from Kala Bhavana, Viswa-Bharati, Santiniketan, holds a Masters in Graphic Arts from M.S. University, Vadodara, and a Postgraduate degree in Papermaking from Glasgow School of Art, UK. He has also qualified NET for Professorship by University Grants Commission, New Delhi.

In 2004 he set up Nirupama Academy of Handmade Paper, which is an educational and entrepreneurial organisation, specialising in the area of hand papermaking, bookbinding and printmaking. He has over twenty five years of teaching experience and has conducted diverse workshops. His ongoing research areas are papermaking from indigenous plant fibre, artists’ book and cyanotype print.

He has received many prestigious awards including Charles Wallace India Trust, UK, Senior Research Fellowship, Junior Research Fellowship, and National Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

His artworks have been widely exhibited and are a part of the collection of Chicago School of Art, Tamarind Art Gallery, USA, National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, ITC Royal Bengal, Kolkata and many others.
